Access to Personal Data On the Internet, My Paper, 5 April 2012
People are increasingly conscious of the importance of safeguarding their personal information online. Online users are making full use of privacy settings on website platforms to ensure that their personal data will be accessible to strangers.
Although a Personal Data Protection Bill will be introduced later this year, Bryan Tan, director of Keystone Law Corporation explains that the new law may not provide absolute protection of personal information as it is not easy to enforce the regulations on the Internet. Most users remain unaware that their online personal information is being collected and users usually do not read the terms and conditions provided by the website operators on how their data would be used.
